Why?

Grocery bills are insane, as are restaurant visits. And who adds $50 to that bill to have a couple cocktails? Specifically in tech, the Great AI Buildout has exploded the prices of RAM, flash, disks, and most other tech goods. It's time to do more with less.

linux486.org is certainly about keeping 32-bit Intel architecture machines going. But it's also about doing more with less, thus running 32-bit mode on machines which could also run as 64-bit machines. If you can kick your 6 gigabyte RAM habit for a 1 gigabyte lifestyle, you can laugh when RAM quadruples in price.

And for interpreted languages, why not fit twice as many pointers in a cache line? Get a serious performance boost with a low end commodity processor. Or, if you're infinitely rich, you don't need us! Go ahead with that AMD Ryzen 9.

So this website is dedicated to helping people who are ready to slip a ways back down the tech bloat curve. Your latest laptop has died, maybe you should dig out a sleepy old Lenovo which everyone is telling you is a boat anchor. Put that $8,400 Thinkpad order on hold and get Devuan Excalibur running instead. You're not infinitely rich, and that's OK.
